ThingLink Fills Images With Sound

ThingLink, a start-up aiming to create richer experiences around objects, has in the last five years become less heady and more specific. Last summer it started offering Web publishers a little bit of code so they can add tags, links and ads to images they post. Other people can then share the ThingLink-ified images with the tagging intact. Today the company is launching a partnership with SoundCloud so users can incorporate sound and music within their images.

ThingLink is headquartered in Helsinki and has raised $1 million from Inventure and Lifeline Ventures. Its product is mostly free now but next up is integration with ad networks for revenue sharing, similar to other in-image ad networks like GumGum.

Coincidentally, ThingLink CEO Ulla-Maaria Engeström is married to Ditto CEO Jyri Engeström, who we also wrote about this week when his company launched its social discovery app. The couple has a lot in common, except for where their companies are based; Ditto is in San Francisco.
